Welcome to Governors Island

Governors Island, a 172 acre island in the heart of New York Harbor, is only 800 yards from Lower Manhattan, and even closer to Brooklyn.

The Trust is transforming Governors Island into a destination with great public open space, as well as educational, not-for-profit, and commercial facilities. In May 2014, 30 new acres of park and public spaces including a sunny terrace, groves of hammocks, ball fields, and monumental works of art opened for public use.

The Trust has also broken ground on the Hills, the crowning feature of the new park. In addition to the completion of the new park spaces and construction of the Hills, The Trust has nearly completed its ambitious infrastructure program to ready the Island for expanded tenancy and activity.

Happy Independence Day! We hope you’re having a blast! The 4th of July is commonly associated with good company, cold beer, and delicious barbecue! Unfortunately, grilling in New York is anything but easy for most. Feel like you’re missing out? Don’t worry! Cook Out NYC is coming back to Governors Island this Saturday and Sunday from 11:30 am – 4:30 pm! The “ultimate outdoor cooking and country fair event” features more than 20 BBQ and grilling stations, Mama O’s Super Spicy Kimichi- Eating Contest, a hot dog competition and so much more. The event does require tickets, available at http://cookoutnyc.com/tickets! If not sold out, tickets may also be available at the door!
